Tips For Cleaning And Maintaining Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are increasingly gaining trend for many homes. Its distinctive look is appealing to the design of any room. But maintaining them is not easy. Here are some vital tips for cleaning hardwood floors.

  1. Vacuum Your Floor Regularly

Yes, yes, we know that you do this already, but there is no harm in mentioning the basics. The easiest and the most effective way to maintain a hardwood vacuum floor is to vacuum it regularly. Dust and dirt particles can scratch floors and dull the finish, so it is important to vacuum it regularly. Make sure you are using a soft - bristled floor tool designed for dusting floors. Also, DO NOT use a vacuum with a beater bar attachment, it scratches a wood floor’s finish.

  1. Deep Cleaning With Care

Submerge your mob in the water and then twist it almost dry so it feels only slightly damp to the touch. Damp-mop the floor carefully. If you see excess liquid spilled out, then immediately wipe it. Standing water can damage your floor. Use a wood cleaning product. Dilute it according to the label instructions for occasional deep cleaning. Strictly avoid soap-based cleaners.  If your hardwood floor is finished with polyurethane or acrylic, then soap cleaners will dull these finishes. It will leave a cloudy film on the floor, even when rinsed well.

  1. WATER, Life For You, Death For Your Floor

Water can destroy the finish of the hardwood. They slowly get deep inside the wood and stain it. Immediately wipe off excess liquid spilled out because it can damage wood surface. If the weather is humid, operate a ceiling fan or the air-conditioner to speed up drying.

In rainy season shut down your windows. If you hairspray and the furniture polish gets spilled, Wipe them up immediately with a damp cloth. Both of them can cloud your floor’s finish.

  1. Doormats, Your Savior

It is said that prevention is better than cure. While vacuuming and spot-cleaning are great, keeping the dirt out in the first place is even better. You can keep doormat both, inside and out.

  1. Cover High Traffic Area With Throw Rugs

People walk several times a day on the same area of the floor. This will eventually deteriorate the wood floor’s finish. Simple throw rugs are the easiest way to prevent it. When there are guest at your house, these elegant rugs will absorb the shock of heels and shoes. Make sure your throw rugs don’t have a backing. Vinyl or rubber backing traps humidity, which can ruin your floor’s finish and stain or damage the wood.

  1. Know The Rules About Using Waxes And Restorers

You can rejuvenate a wax finish with more wax. It adds to the beauty of your hardwood and keeps your floors radiant and shiny. Consult a flooring specialist if your hardwood requires waxing or bluffing.
